Tips for Getting Ready for Your Photoshoot

Whether you’re preparing for a professional headshot, a corporate branding session, or senior portraits, I want to make sure you walk into your shoot feeling confident and ready. Here are my top tips to help you prepare for your photoshoot and get the best possible results.

1. Plan Your Outfit(s) Ahead of Time

  • For headshots & corporate: Stick to solid colors and timeless styles. Avoid overly busy patterns and logos unless they’re part of your brand.

  • For senior portraits: Bring a variety of outfits! Casual, dressy, and something that represents your personality (sports, hobbies, etc.).

  • Avoid wrinkles: Iron or steam your outfits beforehand.

  • Layers & textures: Jackets, blazers, and accessories can add depth and dimension to your look.

2. Grooming & Personal Care

  • Get a fresh haircut at least a few days before your session to allow it to settle naturally.

  • Avoid drastic changes in hair color or style right before your shoot.

  • For guys: If you shave, do so a few hours beforehand to prevent irritation. If you have facial hair, make sure it’s neatly trimmed.

  • For everyone: Hydrated skin looks better on camera! Drink water and moisturize leading up to your shoot.

3. Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Tired eyes and dark circles are hard to hide. Make sure you’re well-rested the night before your shoot so you feel and look refreshed.

4. Bring the Essentials

Pack a small bag with:
✅ A brush or comb
✅ Lip balm & makeup touch-ups (if needed)
✅ A lint roller for stray fuzz
✅ Extra outfits (if applicable)
✅ Water & a snack (especially for longer sessions)

5. Practice Posing & Expressions

  • Stand in front of a mirror and practice different expressions.

  • If it’s a headshot session, think about the vibe you want—approachable, confident, serious, or friendly.

  • Seniors—don’t be afraid to bring ideas or inspiration! I’ll guide you, but it’s great to have input.

6. Relax & Have Fun!

The best photos happen when you’re comfortable and having fun. Trust me to guide you through the process, and don’t stress about being “photogenic.” My job is to bring out your best!
